About Minoo
Minoo connects Indigenous communities, Knowledge Keepers, and the next generation through a living map of people, Teachings, and programs that strengthen cultural identity and support Elders.
The Name
Minoo means "good" in Anishinaabemowin (the Ojibwe language). It's a simple word that carries a lot. Good people, good community, good work. That's what this platform is about.
What is Minoo?
Minoo is a community platform for northern Ontario. It brings together the people, Teachings, events, and programs that make our communities strong — and makes them easier to find.
You can use Minoo to:
- Find communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and language speakers near you
- Explore Teachings — culture, history, and language knowledge passed down through generations
- Discover events — powwows, gatherings, ceremonies, and community programs
- Request help for an Elder or volunteer your time through the Elder Support Program
Who is it for?
Minoo is for anyone connected to community in northern Ontario:
- Elders looking for support with everyday tasks
- Volunteers who want to give back to their community
- Families helping an Elder parent or relative
- Community coordinators organizing local support
- Anyone who wants to strengthen connections in their community
How it works
Minoo is location-aware. Set your community and the platform shows you what's nearby — the closest communities, the people in your area, the next events coming up.
For the Elder Support Program, community coordinators review every request and match Elders with volunteers. No one is left to figure it out alone.
Community-driven
Minoo is built by and for the communities it serves. It's not a corporate product. The data comes from community sources, the design follows community values, and the platform grows based on what communities need.
If you have ideas, feedback, or want to get involved, reach out to your local community coordinator.
Our vision
A future where every Indigenous young person can see themselves reflected in their community — where the Teachings are alive, the Elders are supported, the language is spoken, and the path forward is rooted in who we are.
